Yesterday, DeAndré and I joined Brent Dixon for a presentation at the REAL Solutions Winter Field Coach and League Liaison Meeting in Orlando, Florida. Brent set the stage with a 30 minute overview of social media and user-generated content and then DeAndré and I split the next hour talking about Young & Free.
Here are the slides from DeAndré and my portion of the presentation.

Tim, your talent for slide design improves with every presentation you produce. This is a fantastic looking slide deck.

Thanks for the great presentation. Are the stats on slides 15 -19 canadian, american, both? If they are american, where could I find simlar stats that are canadian. Love the numbers, Lisa

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for your nice comment and good question.
Slides 15 and 16 are from CUNA Market Research and are US numbers. Slide 17 is me extrapolating the numbers based on US and Canadian Census information and the approximate grand total of credit union members in North America. Slide 18 is US information that I found on Callahan's CYouth initiative and finally, Ron Shevlin's Aite Group Gen Y study referenced on slide 19 is US.
I have done lots of digging, but there doesn't seem to be much or any comparable research that has been done in Canada.
My assumption is that Canadian credit unions are doing marginally better than US credit unions in attracting Gen Y, for three reasons. 1) It's easier to join a credit union in Canada because almost all Canadian credit unions have unlimited fields of membership 2) The credit union difference is more obvious in Canada since there are just five or six mega banks and about 450 credit unions in Canada compared to about 10 mega banks, 8,000 community banks and 8,500 credit unions in the US. There is confusion because US community banks and credit unions look and feel very similar to US credit unions. 3) Credit unions in Canada are larger and typically have a more visible brand and in the community.
