It’s a Money Thing Backstage

Remote Interview Details and Best Practices

Thank you for agreeing to be a guest on It’s a Money Thing Backstage. Interviews typically last from 20 to 30 minutes and will be edited down to around 15 minutes. The details below will help you understand the interview and publishing process.

Conducting the interview:

I will send you a calendar invite that includes general questions for the interview. These are thought starters that will help guide our conversation.

For remote interviews I use Zoom. I will record the conversation on my side and will capture individual video and audio files of both sides of the conversation. This process allows for the most flexibility in post production.

Please visit zoom.us, create a free account and download the Zoom app in advance of your interview time. At a minimum, you will need a computer equipped with a webcam and a microphone.

Please join the meeting at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/7251310990 at your interview time.

Best practices for a great interview:

Here are some recommendations to achieve the best-quality interview.

  1. Internet connection: Plug your computer into your network and turn your Wi-Fi off. If a wired connection is not available, ensure that your wireless connection is strong and fast.

  2. Lighting and setting: Make sure that your face is well lit. Windows are a great natural light source and should be behind the camera facing you (windows should never be behind you). If windows are not available, use a desk lamp or a floor lamp to illuminate your face. Be sure the lamp is behind the camera and in front of you. A simple, uncluttered background is preferable.

  3. Microphone: Use a high-quality external microphone or headset microphone. If these options are not available, earbud-style headphones with a built-in microphone or your computer microphone will suffice. Make sure that you are in a quiet room with minimal background noise.

  4. Camera placement: Raise your webcam to eye level; this will produce the most flattering image on the recording. Below is an example of the framing that we are looking for.

Publishing the interview:

Once the interview is completed, it will be edited into a shorter format for release. The first draft will be shared with you for feedback and approval. Once approved, the video will be published on our website and shared from our social media accounts where we will tag your organization’s social media accounts. Feel free to share as well.

Thanks again for participating!
