"The Daily Show" Takes a Stab At the Difference Between US and Canadian Banks

In a hilarious and thought-provoking segment, "The Daily Show" traveled to Canada to discover how the differences between American and Canadian banks stack up. In one of the most revealing moments, the reporter hits the streets (in both Toronto and New York) to ask people "what comes to mind when you hear the word "banker?"

Here were the their responses:

  1. Trustworthy, considerate
  2. Cockroaches, greedy little <expletives>
  3. Like an extension of my family
  4. Sleazy, disrespectful
  5. Reliable
  6. Backstabbing
  7. Transparent
  8. Money-grubbing

Can you guess which was said by an American and which was by a Canadian? Add an "eh" to the end of the odd-numbered responses and you've got your answer!

Banks (and by extension, credit unions) have an uphill battle when it comes to public perception in the United States. That it why it is incredibly important for credit unions to teach both their members and the public the differences between banks and credit unions, and to shed some light on our mission.
