Crafting The Ultimate Facebook Page

Internet Presence.

We all want it, but the ultimate question is, how do we get it?

Check this passage from an article written in NetBanker in 2008 -

There hasn't exactly been a rush to do it, but approximately 50 financial institutions have posted a free company page on Facebook (see note 1). Although, most are simple "white page" listings with no more than logo, address, phone number and URL, it's still better than nothing.

This was almost 3 years ago, and since then Facebook has exploded - any organization worth its SEO ranking has a Page presence on Facebook.

But at this point, the bar has been raised. So how does a credit union excel in an arena that so many fail at everyday?

  • Be authentic. We can find your hours of operation anywhere. Give us the human side of your CU. Member Care reps having a good time in between calls. Account reps taking a break at lunch and goofing around - anything that peels the veneer of "CORPORATION" away from your page.
  • Update it often. There is nothing worse than an abandoned, dusty Facebook Page. In an era where people check their Facebook hundreds of times a week, it can literally seem like a credit union has no life if its Facebook presence is barren. Think of it like this - would you leave a bulletin board in your branch littered with events that occurred in 2009?
  • Be creative. The 7-11 near my apartment did something fun for Halloween - they took a picture of every customer that came in and posted it in the front of the store, and on their Facebook page. People were genuinely excited about it - If a 7-11 can inspire that kind of community, why not a credit union?

This list can go on and on and on, but use this as a starting point - go breathe some life into your credit union Facebook Page!
